Gatwick & A-SAFE

A construction partner contracted on behalf of Gatwick airport required a critical apron protection solution for the tug charging area, service layout and international arrivals. They called on A-SAFE to supply bespoke protection

An integrated business offering support services, project finance and construction, employing 43,000 people globally, and servicing buildings, transport and power networks.

Situation

Responsible for the modification of Gatwick’s key terminals, the customer is one of the airport’s main construction contractors. A-SAFE were asked to specify, supply and install safety barrier protection on-site for the reconfiguration of Pier 5. The contractor wanted to ensure that critical apron equipment and structures were protected against damaging impacts from ground equipment vehicles.

Solution

In separate installations to avoid minimum disruption to operations, A-SAFE manufactured, supplied and installed extreme-strength Atlas Double Traffic Barrier to protect the service layout and international arrivals zones against impact from airside vehicles, as well as critical structures and equipment in the apron area.

Atlas Triangle Barrier, a unique configuration developed for airports was used to defend the tug charging area, protecting the highly critical apparatus from heavy-laden vehicles and ensuring airport logistics run smoothly. Our Atlas safety solution range is designed with galvanised steel base plates, and it’s also non-corrosive, non-repaint and non-scratch to stand up to tough external weather conditions in a range of climates.
